Selcuk Ephesus Museum
A
storehouse was kept n 1929 in Selcuk and the artifacts
found during the excavations were stored here. In the year
1964, the construction of the section in the south of
today's museum was completed and the artifacts began to be
exhibited. The museum, which is formed of a number of
galleries, became insufficient for the artifacts brought
to light in the excavations made every year and thus, the
northern section was constructed in 1976 and the
exhibition area was enlarged.
Today the museum of Ephesus is a rich local museum with
artifacts holding importance for Ephesian and Anatolian
archeology and brought largely from the Ephesus
excavations, the Church of St. John, The Belevi Monument
and other ruins in the vicinity. Among the art works from
Mycenaean, Archaic, Hellenistic Roman, Byzantine and
Turkish periods, the majority is from the Hellenistic,
Roman and
Byzantine eras.
